Salad haters deserve to be dumped.
A humiliated bride was “completely ruined” at her wedding after hungry guests ignored the lavish vegan dinner menu – and ordered pizza for delivery instead.
Taking to Reddit, the emotionally distraught bride – whose message was shared as she cried in the bathroom as the events unfolded – wrote that she and her husband spent “almost $15,000” to make the menu. It came after months of collaborating with a chef “to create a 5-course gourmet meal that just happened to be vegan.”
Its offerings included mushroom Wellington, truffle risotto and roasted vegetable tarts, the 28-year-old added.
“We deliberately didn’t mention that the food was vegan on the invitations because we wanted people to enjoy it without prejudice,” she wrote. “Each dish is designed to be delicious and satisfying, regardless of dietary preferences.”
However, not everyone was keen to go green, including the bride’s 32-year-old brother Tom.
“Twenty minutes later, I watched in horror as he and my cousins walked in carrying 20 large pizzas. They started handing them out to the guests, proclaiming ‘Real food for anyone who wants it!’
“I was upset. The caterers seemed so embarrassed and some guests had yet to try our carefully planned menu.”
The furious bride then confronted Tom, who shared the messages his aunt had sent him, complaining that “all the food is just vegetables”.
Obviously, Tom and family “couldn’t let people go hungry at a wedding.”
Meanwhile, the bride admitted that “the pizza completely changed our expensive gourmet meal.”
“People were taking pictures and treating it as a joke. My mother-in-law posted on Facebook how her son’s wedding was ‘saved by pizza’ because the bride tried to ‘force everyone to eat rabbit food’”.
The evening ended with the bride bawling her eyes out in the bathroom and her 30-year-old husband, who also follows a plant-based diet, kicking out Tom and their cousins, the pizza co-workers.
“This caused a scene, and now half the family is calling us nuts and saying we ruined our wedding by ‘pushing our beliefs’ on everyone,” the bride wrote. “They’re saying we should have warned people about the vegan menu.”
In the comments of the post, people online didn’t take the newlyweds’ side — especially for weaponizing the element of surprise.
“Be honest, you didn’t tell anyone about the menu because you knew they wouldn’t like it/come if you did,” wrote one.
“[The original poster] this is why people have a negative view of vegans,” added another.
